* Number of scholarships available per team.
NCAA Division I (National Collegiate Athletic Association)
It has the highest level of competition and also a higher number of scholarships. These are well-known universities, with very competitive programs for every sport in which they compete in.

NCAA Division II
These schools are smaller in size than Division I schools and provide a good degree of competitiveness, especially between the schools on top. Schools that belong to this division provide all types of scholarships, from athletic to academic.

NCAA Division III
There are not any athletic scholarships in Division III but universities offer many grants, academic scholarships, loans and financial aid.

NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics)
Schools that belong to the NAIA do not have such strict requirements as the NCAA has. Age is not an issue with the NAIA and athletes that are in the mid-20s can be seen competing in many schools. Some of the top programs could very well compete with the best schools in NCAA.

NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association)
Junior Colleges are used as a bridge for athletes that do not meet the requirements to compete in the NCAA. Most of these athletes compete and study at the NJCAA and then move on to competitive NCAA schools.
